Blue Ridge Parkway No billboards, no rush. That's the 469 miles of the Blue Ridge Parkway. America's Favorite Drive snakes through valleys, over mountaintops and into dark tunnels. The Great Smoky Mountains National Park serves as the southern terminus of the Parkway, with Shenandoah National Park at the northern end. From Maggie Valley, the Parkway can take you to spectacular sunsets at Waterrock Knob and to the Balsam Mountain area of the Smokies. The best plan for exploring the Parkway is to have no plan at all there are trails, picnic areas, scenic views, creeks and campgrounds around every corner and plenty of room for everyone to find their own secluded spot. For cyclists up for a challenge, the Parkway offers some of the most scenic routes in the East and plays host to several long-distance cycling events, including the Assault on Mount Mitchell and the Bridge to Bridge Century. |
